About the Mt. Washington Alliance

Working Together to Strengthen Our Community

signThe Mt. Washington Alliance was formed to close the social and economic opportunity gap between the Mt. Washington neighborhood and the rest of Haverhill, MA, to help strengthen the city as a whole.

Mt. Washington is home to about 7,500 residents, 65% of whom fall within low- to moderate-income guidelines. An area rich in history and culture, the Mt. Washington neighborhood once served as a gateway to opportunity for immigrants. This opportunity has eroded with the economy, leaving the neighborhood with less income stability than surrounding areas.

The Alliance works to improve employment, education, housing, and other factors affecting neighborhood life in Mt. Washington through a range of resources and initiatives. With a Working Cities Challenge grant from the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston and support from individuals and partnering organizations, the Alliance works to make a difference in the Mt. Washington community.

We are a true neighborhood partnership. Our work represents the combined efforts of residents, businesses, government, and community agencies working together to make Mt. Washington a vibrant place to live and work.
